I am a fan of Brendan Rodgers, the current Liverpool FC football manager (at the time of writing, you know how football is!), I like some of the things he says. And one of the things I liked was in the Channel 5 series which went behind the scenes at the club. In one of the episodes he talks about he trys not to celebrate wins too much, but equally not get too downbeat when they lose. Trying to always maintain a fairly balanced emotional state.
This is great advice in our game too! When it comes to individual trades it is of huge benefit to keep calm about them, whatever the outcome. This will go a long way towards not letting previous trades affect behaviour going in to the next trade.
But then that brings up the question; when do you celebrate?
I believe in enjoying a small celebration for individual steps, that is how I approach things. So that could be completing another level of a worksheet (if you use one to increase stake size steadily). It could be completing work on a section of your folder, it could be your first profitable month, or your most profitable month. They key is you are only celebrating small individual steps, so the celebrations should be low key, perhaps grab yourself whatever you like as a treat, perhaps a fresh cake from the bakery and a cup of tea! Whatever your guilty pleasure is, go for it.
Here is an interesting article I found which has other ways to success, some are tiny such as “Go for a run”. But they highlight perfectly little ways to be satisfied with what you have done and soak it in for a moment.
Time to celebrate big
When it is the end of the financial year, if it has been good, or even great and you’ve made a whopping profit it is time to celebrate big, I mean massive! Have a night out with friends, buy yourself something awesome, or just treat yourself to something expensive you’ve wanted for a while. I think celebrating like this in style is the bomb. Don’t get crazy about individual trades, but do get crazy when you’ve done well over a sustained period!
